Goomah, Live Bait to Shutter Jan. 10

Another one bites the dust (well technically two, even though they share the same building). BTC, the hospitality group behind the Italian concept Goomah and seafood concept Live Bait, has announced both will cease operations on the night of Sat., Jan. 10.

Located at 2440 Orchard Lake Rd in Sylvan Lake, both have been in business for just over two years. They were known for their great daily happy hours. This marks the end for BTC, which also recently closed Paloma (the former El Camino restaurant). The three closures deal a huge blow to already struggling retail/dining scene in the the Keego/Sylvan lake corridor.

Sylvan Table Holiday Pop Up

Stop in to Sylvan Table to enjoy a holiday-themed pop up on their outdoor heated patio (enclosed). The family-friendly event will take place every weekend in December. Guests will enjoy Christmas cocktails, games, movies and a special food menu.

The pop up opens at 5 p.m. each Friday, Saturday and Sunday. No reservations required, first come first serve. Holiday attire is encouraged.

Third Annual Shoppe Sylvan

Cass Lake Fireworks Date Announced

The 2025 Annual Cass Lake Independence Day Fireworks are scheduled for Sat., July 5. Showtime is at dusk. It it rains, a makeup date will be announced.

Where to view: The fireworks will be shot off from barges in the center of the lake. You pretty much either need to be on a boat or at a private residence to view. Dodge & Marshbank parks aren’t open to visitors that late.

How to donate: Donations are appreciated to fund the annual event and can be made payable to Cass Lake Fireworks, 3220 Erie Dr. Orchard Lake, MI 48324. Venmo to @casslake-fireworks.

Lost Sailor Fish & Gourmets Grand Opening April 26

Lost Sailor Fish & Gourmet will celebrate its grand opening on Sat., April 26, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Stop in for a variety of samples.

The new Sylvan Lake business features seafood (of course), meats, cheeses, and gourmet products. You’ll also find a nice selection of beer and wine. Some of the highlights include lobster rolls, fish & chips, Bluepoint oysters and the salmon.

Sylvan Table: Well-Oiled Machine Serving up Delicious, Fresh Fare

We checked out the newest farm-to-table restaurant in the Metro Detroit area, Sylvan Table. Open only since early June, the restaurant is already a well-oiled machine serving up delicious, fresh fare. As described by the owners, the menu features rustic, elevated, multicultural cuisine with a seasonal focus as ingredients are sourced locally and served fresh. While their own farm operations won’t be ready to fully sustain the restaurant for a couple years, they are featuring many local partners on their menu and in their gift shop.

Sylvan Table is housed in a 300-year-old barn from Maine that was deconstructed and brought to Sylvan Lake where it was rebuilt and refurbished. The end result is a spacious and cozy building with a large bar in the center and a sunken dining room on the side. Tables in the main dining area can enjoy the views of the kitchen and wood-fire ovens behind a wall of windows. There is also a loft space and a brighter back room with a glass ceiling and fireplace. The waiting area offers comfortable chairs and couches with another fireplace, also a great place to enjoy a cocktail. And of course there’s the gift shop, where you can purchase jars of Sylvan Honey, pickled carrots, gift sets of homemade soaps, candles, and jewelry as well as Sylvan Table swag. Plus they boast a large outdoor patio with views of the garden areas.

On top of a modern and comfortable aesthetic, Sylvan Table has a friendly and attentive staff, an excellent selection of beers, ciders, and wines, and a creative craft cocktail menu. Not to mention the food. The bone marrow is a clear favorite, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

With it’s different spaces and styles, Sylvan Table is a great spot for a drink and app, nice dinner out, or any event you’re looking to host.
